Group Jerónimo Martins began operating in manufacturing in the end of the 1930's, beginning of the 1940's, with the foundation of Fima (Fábrica Imperial de Margarina, Lda.), in 1944, a factory that produces margarines and cooking oils.

The crucial point in the expansion of the Group's manufacturing business happened in 1949. In this year a joint venture was set up with Unilever, the Anglo-Dutch multinational. Unilever's products had been sold by Jerónimo Martins's for a long time.

In 2007 with the merger of the companies: Fima VG, Lever Elida e Olá, a new company is born Unilever Jerónimo Martins. With this merger the shareholding positions are 55% Unilever and 45% Jerónimo Martins.
