CREATING VALUE WITH PURPOSE

Our strategy of creating long-term value while promoting social development and safeguarding the environment has been widely recognised. This reflects our commitment to responsible growth that benefits people, communities, and the planet.

In 2024, Jerónimo Martins’ shares were listed on more than 140 international sustainability indices, attesting the Group’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.

CDP

In 2024, we achieved the highest possible score (A) from CDP for the fourth consecutive year in the Climate programme. We also earned the leadership rating of A- in both the Forest and Water programmes.

FTSE Diversity & Inclusion Index – Top 100

We ranked 46th globally on the FTSE Diversity & Inclusion Index – Top 100 in 2024, which highlights publicly listed companies that are leading the way in promoting diverse and inclusive workplaces. We are the only Portuguese-based company and the sole representative from the “supermarkets and convenience stores” category.

BLOOMBERG GENDER-EQUALITY INDEX

Since 2021, we have been included in the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index, which evaluates companies based on over 100 indicators related to transparency and performance in gender equality.

SUSTAINALYTICS

We received a score of 16.2 (which places us 12th out of 182 food retailers) and were rated to be at low risk on the Sustainalytics’ 2024 ESG Risk Assessment. The score and the rating show that we are effectively managing environmental, social and governance risks.

MSCI

MSCI – MORGAN STANLEY CAPITAL INTERNATIONAL

We are listed on both the MSCI ACWI ESG Leaders and the MSCI ACWI SRI indices, which highlight high-performing companies in social, environmental and governance (ESG) areas. In 2023, we achieved an “A” rating on a scale from “CCC” (minimum score) to “AAA” (maximum score).

STOXX

We are included in several Stoxx ESG indices, specifically the STOXX Global ESG Environmental Leaders, the STOXX Europe Sustainability and the EURO STOXX Sustainability. These indices recognise the world’s leading companies in social, environmental and governance (ESG) practices.

FTSE4Good

FTSE4Good

Since 2016, we have been included in both the FTSE4Good Europe Index and the FTSE4Good Developed Index. In 2018 we were also added to the FTSE4Good Developed Minimum Variance. These indices, which we continue to be part of, were created by FTSE Russel and identify companies that best manage sustainability risks.

EURONEXT INDICES

Since 2020, we’ve been listed on the Euronext Eurozone ESG Large 80 Index, which recognises the companies supporting the energy transition and reducing climate impact. We are listed in the Euronext Sustainable Europe 120 and the Euronext Climate Europe indexes, highlighting our performance across more than 300 environmental, social and governance (ESG) indicators.

ISS ESG

Since 2012, we have been evaluated by ISS ESG (one of the world’s leading rating agencies) on around 100 social, environmental and governance (ESG) indicators. In 2022, 2023 and 2024, we achieved “Prime” status, a level that distinguishes leading companies within their sector. In 2024, we increased our score compared to the previous year – ranking 3rd among Industry Leaders.

GLOBAL CHILD FORUM

In 2023, we were recognised as a “Leader” by the Global Child Forum and earned a score of 8.9 out of 10. We ranked 5th in this European ranking, which evaluates companies on their practices concerning children’s rights.

LEAN & GREEN

We continue to lead in sustainable logistics through the Lean & Green initiative, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality in these activities by 2050. In 2024, Pingo Doce became the first company in Portugal and the fourth in Europe to achieve four stars. In the same year, Biedronka earned its second star and Terra Alegre received its first.

INCLUSIVE EMPLOYER

Our holding company has been recognised as an Inclusive Employer by the Portuguese Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP) since 2021, achieving the distinction of “Excellence” in 2023. The Inclusive Employer Brand has also been awarded to Recheio since 2021 and to Pingo Doce since 2023.

EUROCOMMERCE

In 2023, our Incluir Programme was recognised by EuroCommerce as the best project in the “Skills” category at the first Future of European Commerce Awards.

FINANTIAL TIMES/STATISTA

We are included in the 2024 European Climate Leaders list, by the Financial Times and Statista, focusing on companies with the greatest reduction in intensity (tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions per €1 million of revenue) of Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions over a five-year period (2017-2022 for this edition), with figures weighted in relation to revenue. In our case, the decrease was 9.9%.

NATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY

Our strategy for fighting food waste was recognised in the first edition of the Portuguese Sustainability Award (“Circular Economy” category). In 2022, the Juliana project was awarded the first prize (“Sustainability Communication” category), while Pingo Doce logistics was awarded in “Decarbonisation”. This initiative is promoted by Jornal de Negócios in partnership with Deloitte, under the patronage of the President of the Portuguese Republic.
