António Viana-Baptista was born in Lisbon (Portugal) in 1957.
He has a degree in Economics from Universidade Católica Portuguesa (1980), Post-Graduate studies in European Economics from Universidade Católica Portuguesa (1981) and an MBA from INSEAD (Fontainebleau, 1983).
Between 1985 and 1991, he was a Principal Partner of Mckinsey & Co, at their Madrid and Lisbon offices, and between 1991 and 1998 held office as a Director of Banco Português de Investimento.
Between 1998 and 2002, he was Chairman and CEO of Telefónica International and between 2002 and 2006, he was Executive Chairman & CEO of Telefónica Móviles S.A.
From 2006 to 2008 he was Executive Chairman (Chairman & CEO) of Telefónica España.
From 2000 to 2008 he was a non-executive member of the Board of Directors of Portugal Telecom.
Between 2011 and 2016 he was CEO of Crédit Suisse AG for Spain and Portugal.
He is currently non-executive director of Semapa SGPS SA, Atento SA and Azora Capital SL, and he is also director of Alter Venture Partners G.P., SARL.
He has been a Non-Executive Director of Jerónimo Martins, SGPS, SA since 9 April 2010, having also held office as a member of the Audit Committee of that company during the 2010-2012 and 2013-2015 terms.
