Funds from Jerónimo Martins help set up second intensive care unit at the Central Hospital in the Alentejo region

The Jerónimo Martins Group will be helping to complete the installation of a second intensive care unit at Hospital Espírito Santo de Évora, the Central Hospital in the Alentejo Region, an investment of more than 320 thousand euros.

Among the equipment donated by the Jerónimo Martins Group are portable x-ray machines, a monitoring station, 14 monitors and 14 capnography modules (technology that assesses a patient’s ventilatory status), a capnograph for a G5 ventilator, a capnograph adapter and 60 SPACE syringes.

This new unit will significantly increase the region’s response to the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic, enabling the treatment of 12 patients in an acute phase of the disease, that is, with respiratory failure and who need to be put on a ventilator.

Although the Alentejo region, to date and with a significant gap, is the region in mainland Portugal with the lowest number of confirmed cases (85) and no deaths reported as a result of the coronavirus, the high concentration of elderly population is a cause for concern.

With guaranteed funding from the Jerónimo Martins Group, Hospital Espírito Santo de Évora has already placed all orders with manufacturers and expects delivery of equipment later this month.
