The Jerónimo Martins Group has invested 55 million euros to award an extraordinary bonus to 80,000 of its operations employees (mostly from stores and distribution centres) in Portugal, Poland and Colombia. The Jerónimo Martins’ Board of Directors approved its Chairman Pedro Soares dos Santos’ proposal to award this bonus, that was paid in April as a recognition to the work and the contribution of these employees to the Group’s results in 2021.
In Portugal, the individual amount of the bonus was 550 euros, reaching more than 21 thousand employees, with an investment superior to 11 million euros, and it was paid on top to their variable monthly pay and the employee support programmes and initiatives focusing on healthcare, education and family well-being.
In 2021, the Group invested over 25 million euros in variable monthly pay to the operations employees in Portugal and around 5 million euros in social responsibility programmes designed for its employees in the country (an increase of 44% in comparison to the 3.2 million euros invested in 2020). Considering all the bonuses paid to employees in the three geographies, the Group invested 217 million euros (equivalent to approximately 70% of profits in the previous year).
The Jerónimo Martins Group employs over 34,000 people in Portugal, of a total of more than 123,000 employees in the three countries where it does business – Portugal, Poland and Colombia.
