Jerónimo Martins included in global gender equality index for third consecutive year

  • Index includes a select group of 484 companies (7 Portuguese) across 11 sectors and 45 countries.

The list of companies that made the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index has just been released and, for the third year running, the Jerónimo Martins Group is part of the select list of companies that have been included in this global gender equality index. The Group’s overall score climbed 3.66 percentage points in relation to 2022, to 75.21%.

Among the companies in its sector (consumer staples) – 37 are included in this index – Jerónimo Martins has a higher score in most pillars assessed, with considerable differences noted for example in "equal pay and gender pay parity" (82.35% for Jerónimo Martins vs. 63.08% for the sector average) and "anti-sexual harassment policies" (80% vs. 70.27%).

The Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index tracks the performance of public companies in respect of reporting and their gender equality policies, assessing 70 indicators across five pillars: leadership and talent pipeline, equal pay and gender pay parity, inclusive culture, anti-sexual harassment policies, and external brand.

The 2023 GEI listing includes 484 companies – of which seven are Portuguese – from 11 different sectors in 45 countries. Only companies that have a market capitalisation of $1 billion are eligible for inclusion in the index.
