Jerónimo Martins invests €25 million in an extra Christmas bonus for its employees

At the end of a challenging year, the Jerónimo Martins Group offered a Christmas gift to its store, factory, distribution centre and farm employees in Portugal and in Poland, corresponding to a €25 million investment, to ease the burden on their family budgets.

In Portugal, more than 25,000 employees have now received an extra €350 on top of the €750 extraordinary bonus already paid out in April, bringing the total extra income per employee for the year to €1,100.

The Group also offered more than 14,000 Christmas presents to its employees’ children up to the age of 12, while over 35,000 employees in Portugal received a symbolic gift consisting of a traditional Portuguese Christmas fruit cake and a bottle of sparkling wine.

According to Marta Maia, Chief People Officer of the Jerónimo Martins Group, “These Christmas initiatives are in addition to a series of other programmes and actions with a great personal and family impact that we have implemented throughout the year. The difficult economic environment, combined with the various constraints in access to healthcare and the ongoing concern about the education of their children, has prompted us to step up specific measures and to implement new initiatives that help make life easier for our employees.”

Jerónimo Martins invests over €6 million in employee and family programmes in Portugal in 2023

In 2023, Jerónimo Martins invested more than €6 million in Portugal in social responsibility and well-being programmes to help employees and their families.
The Group’s employees can benefit from various programmes, many of which can be extended to their families. Health initiatives include free online medical consultations, oral health programmes funded entirely by Jerónimo Martins, free psychological and psychiatric consultations, and medical assistance for cancer patients, including home support and transport.

Jerónimo Martins also offers various solutions and gifts for its employees’ children, such as school vouchers at the beginning of the school year, which reached around 20,000 children, the €10 gift voucher offered on Children’s Day, the kits for newborns with a €150 gift voucher, and free summer holiday camps, which were attended by 1,500 children this year.
