CDP - Disclosure Insight Action has just released its annual assessment and, for the fourth consecutive year, the Jerónimo Martins Group is ranked first in the sector worldwide for its performance – and transparency in reporting – in the fight against climate change, water security, and the fight against deforestation.
In the three programmes assessed by CDP, the Jerónimo Martins Group was awarded the top score (A) in “climate change” and leadership level (A-) in “water security” and in managing all the commodities associated with deforestation risk (“forests”): palm oil, timber, cattle and soy. No other food retailer, worldwide, achieved such a high score.
CDP also awarded the Jerónimo Martins Group the maximum level (A) for the way it integrates sustainability into its business strategy, and for the identification and disclosure of its risk management practices associated with these topics.
Pedro Soares dos Santos, Chairman and CEO of the Jerónimo Martins Group states that “being world leaders in our sector, for the fourth consecutive year, demonstrates the solidity and consistency with which we have been incorporating sustainability concerns into the way we conduct our business and is the recognition of the rigor and transparency we place in our communication about these subjects”.
These results reflect the Jerónimo Martins Group's best practices in finding a balance between economic prosperity, social development, and environmental preservation, which have been recognised internationally with inclusion in more than 120 sustainability indices, among which the Euronext Vigeo-Eiris Eurozone 120 and Europe 120 indices, or the FTSE4Good Developed and Europe Indexes.
CDP is a non-profit organisation that encourages companies and cities to measure and manage environmental and climate change opportunities and risks. Each year, the CDP collects information through its ‘climate change’, ‘forests’ and ‘water security’ questionnaires. In 2023, the assessment encompassed more than 23,000 companies across the globe, which represent two thirds of global market capitalisation.
