Jerónimo Martins Group recognised for excellence in the fight against climate change and deforestation and in water management
The Jerónimo Martins Group has reached an important milestone in the independent assessment and recognition of its good practices in sustainability and corporate citizenship. In its recently published annual assessment, CDP – Disclosure Insight Action awarded the Jerónimo Martins Group the highest score (level A) for its performance and transparent reporting in the three programmes assessed: “Climate Change”, “Water Security” and “Forest” (managing the commodities most associated with deforestation risk: palm oil, paper and timber, cattle and soy).
This is the first time globally that a food retailer achieved this level of distinction, that ensures the Jerónimo Martins Group is included in the group of just 23 companies worldwide on CDP’s A List to achieve a “Triple A” score. As such, the Jerónimo Martins Group ranks among the global leaders demonstrating comprehensive disclosure, mature environmental governance, and meaningful progress towards environmental resilience.
For Pedro Soares dos Santos, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of the Jerónimo Martins Group, “to achieve the maximum score in the three programmes assessed by CDP is the recognition of the determined, rigorous and transparent way in which we place sustainable growth at the top of our Companies’ priorities, in line with responsible corporate citizenship conduct that we defend and encourage. We are delighted to receive the results of this assessment, which attest to the solidity, seriousness and consistency of the work that our teams have been performing in these areas in the various countries where we operate. It is well deserved that their efforts and sense of commitment to incorporating environmental concerns – in addition to ethical and social concerns – and best sustainability practices into daily business decisions are now recognised at the highest level”.
The sustainable performance of the Jerónimo Martins Group, as well as its contributions to economic prosperity and social development, have been recognised internationally with inclusion in more than 140 sustainability indices, among which Eurozone120, Europe 120, Sustainable Europe 120 and Climate Europe, Euronext indices, FTSE4Good Developed, CPR AssetManagement and various Solactive indices.
CDP is a non-profit organisation that encourages companies and cities to measure and manage environmental and climate change opportunities and risks. Each year, the CDP collects information through its ‘climate change’, ‘forests’ and ‘water security’ questionnaires. In 2025, the assessment encompassed more than 22,000 companies across the globe, which represent two thirds of global market capitalisation.
