Nurturing a more sustainable future

Our mission to democratise access to safe, high-quality food requires a great responsibility towards the ecosystems that sustain our business. We therefore promote a balance between economic prosperity, social development and environmental preservation. We respect natural resources and adopt good practices throughout the value chain so that we can take protect the present without compromising the future.

''We believe that only by creating value in a sustainable and socially responsible manner can we leave a legacy that protects the planet, strengthens communities and ensures that our growth benefits both current and future generations.''

Pedro Soares dos Santos

Chairman & CEO of the Jerónimo Martins Group

How we put our strategy into practice

Sustainable sourcing

We promote, internally and with our suppliers, the sustainable sourcing of raw materials and actions to protect ecosystems.

The best value for money

We develop safe, healthy and high-quality food solutions, encouraging responsible consumption.

Our material topics

The double materiality analysis we conducted in 2024 identified ten material topics for our stakeholders.

The ESG reporting model

Our sustainability performance indicators are reported according to the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) framework, in line with the recommendations of the ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards). Material topics are thus identified in the areas of Environment, Social and Governance.

In addition to these, we continue to report other indicators relevant to the Group’s sustainability strategy, but which were not identified in the double materiality analysis.

This is how we report our material topics according to the ESG framework:

Environment

  • Climate change
  • Food waste
  • Packaging redesign for sustainable resource use

Social

  • Product affordability
  • Product safety and quality standards
  • Product and services innovation
  • Labour rights and working conditions – own workforce
  • Employee learning and development
  • Engaging and supporting local communities

Governance

  • Sustainable and responsible criteria in the supply chain
