HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The results in the countries where we do business were achieved in an incredibly difficult climate, facing pressure from multiple sources, from the ethical imperative to meet the social needs that emerged and worsened, to continuing to make progress on our environmental commitments.

PROMOTING GOOD HEALTH THROUGH FOOD

We are committed to the quality and diversity of the food products we sell. Therefore, we nutritionally reformulated several recipes and avoided the entry into the market of:

2,468
TONNES OF SUGAR
58
TONNES OF SALT
212
TONNES OF FATS

RESPECTING THE ENVIRONMENT

We have reinforced the investment in priority action areas: fighting climate change, preserving biodiversity and managing waste in a responsible way.

Over 3,700
TONNES OF PACKAGING MATERIALS AVOIDED
-37.9%
CARBON FOOTPRINT (PER 1,000 EUROS OF SALES), COMPARED TO 2017

SOURCING RESPONSIBLY

We once again achieved our goal of sourcing more than 80% of the food products we sell in our stores from local suppliers.

89%
FOOD PRODUCTS SOURCED FROM LOCAL SUPPLIERS
Over 200
NEW SUSTAINABLY CERTIFIED PRODUCTS

SUPPORTING SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES

In the year in which we launched the Biedronka Foundation, we strengthened our support for projects and causes that affect the most vulnerable groups in society in the three countries where we are present.

Over 18,600
TONNES OF FOOD DONATED
47.6 M€

BEING A BENCHMARK EMPLOYER

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Group’s main priority has been to protect our employees. More than 16 million euros were invested in protective equipment for the teams and in proactive testing for Covid-19, among other measures.

2,782

189 M€

Sustainability Recognised

We were included in 30 new international sustainability indices in 2020, and closed the year being present in more than 90 indices which recognise the responsible way in which we seek to manage our businesses. At the same time, and for the second year in a row, we are the only food retailer in the world to achieve the leadership level (A-) in CDP Forests.
